THE EMMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS ARE IN AND HBO TOP THE HUNDRED

Emmy Award Nomination time again and HBO have managed to snag a massive 104 nominations with Mildred Pierce (the five parter starring Kate Winslet) leading the way with 21 individual nominations (the same amount that cable rival Showtime bagged altogether). Other big nomination grabbers for the channel were Game of Thrones and gangster epic Boardwalk Empire.

CBS were the closest rivals to HBO with 50 nominations and NBC managed 46 and overall the series with the most nominations were Mad Men (19), Boardwalk Empire (18), Modern Family (17), Saturday Night Live (16), Game of Thrones (13). Hugely popular UK ITV period drama Downton Abbey also managed to get 11 nominations.

Our favourite Idris Elba also got a nomination for his performance in the fab BBC crime drama Luther.

On the actor in a drama series front the nominees are Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Hugh Laurie (House), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified).

Actress nominees in the same category are Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Kathy Bates (Harry’s Law), Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order:SVU), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).

The Emmys are on September 18, 2011 on Fox and this year Jane Lynch will be hosting.
