USA Network confirm drug smuggling drama Queen of the South

Touted as a mixture of “Breaking Bad” and “Weeds”, “Queen of the South” is based on the Latin American telenovela “La Reina del Sur” and has been given a 13 episode series order by the USA Network. The series is produced by Fox TV Studios and Universal Cable Productions with David T. Friendly (Little Miss Sunshine) as Executive Producer.

Based on the bestselling novel by Perez-Reverte Aruro and the already mention telenovela the plot follows Teresa Mendoza, whose drug dealing friend is unexpectedly killed in Mexico leaving Teresa forced to seek refuge and protection in the US.
