LINKSTHE PASSING SHOW The Life and Music of Ronnie Lane
UK / BBC4 / 1x60 minute episode / Friday 6 Jan 2006 @ 9.00pm
Brilliant documentary tracing the life and career of legendary Ronnie Lane from his earliest days in the Small Faces through superstardom with The Faces and his solo years where he really came to life as a songwriter and performer of a particularly English country rural sound, typified by songs such as Burnin' Summer and the beautiful Annie, Ronnie contracted MS in the mid 70's and died in 1997.
There were contributions from Eric Clapton, Ian McLagan, Kenny Jones, Pete Townshend and Ronnie's widow, Susan Gallegos as well as some gorgeous archive footage of the man himself. Immediately following the documentary there an hours worth of archive BBC footage from shows such as Top of the Pops (featuring the Faces performing Maggie May with a somewhat embarassed John Peel on Mandolin) and a selection of songs from a BBC In Concert performance by Ronnie.
