BBC Two’s new competitive food show, replacing The Great British Bake Off (now on it’s way to Channel 4) and presented by Zoe Ball and Nadiya Hussain continues, with two more passionate foodie families going head to head to impress judges Giorgio Locatelli and Rosemary Shrager for a place in the semi-finals.
In this second heat, we meet the Karim family from west London, pictured. Zakila (48) is renowned for her homemade samosas. Her niece, Sumiya (18) is constantly taking photos of her cooking and she is in charge of presentation on the team. Zakila’s sister-in-law Rizwana (36) moved to the UK from Pakistan just over a decade ago and she is used to organic, fresh produce. Zakila is queen of the kitchen in the Karim’s household, but will her spice mix leave the judges wanting more when they visit the family at home?
Going up against them are the Dawes from Hampshire. Sam (30) and his girlfriend Ellie (31) met when through a performing poetry collective and instantly bonded over their love of food. Based in London, Sam loves the science behind food and is constantly experimenting with different ways to cook, from six-meat lasagne to cryo-blanching beans. He grew up in Hong Kong and his Dad’s Chinese cooking has influenced his cooking today. Ellie and her mum Sue (60) love hosting themed dinner parties at the family home in Havant, Hampshire. The Dawes family share a passion for food, but will their bold use of ingredients be a step too far for the judges?
The Big Family Cooking Showdown Episode 2 (of 12) airs on Tuesday 22 August 2017 from 8.00pm-9.00pm on BBC Two.
