Black Sails XI (Starz 7 Feb 2015, with Tadhg Murphy)
In Black Sails XI with the ship about to head back into Nassau, Flint and Silver take a longboat to visit Hornigold to arrange supplies with the intention of heading straight back out to take the Urca treasure. It’s absolutely vital that no word is leaked about the fact that the Urca has run aground and the treasure is lying in wait on the beach. They are somewhat shocked to discover that Hornigold is no longer in charge of the fort.
The none too likeable Ned Low pays a visit to Vane seeking reassurance that he will not intervene should Low’s battle with Eleanor escalate. Vane agrees that he will not get involved, not that that means anything of course.
Flint next pays a visit to Eleanor, he’s not impressed at her behavior over allowing Vane to take control of the fort, he makes it plain they need to be rid of him if he is to have a place to bring the Urca gold back to. Eleanor gets a but of wise advice from Mr Scott about just where her allegience should lay.
Vane takes the Ned Low situation to a very quick conclusion, killing him and taking his ship. He leaves Ned’s head on a stake outside Eleanor tavern with a sign saying “I angered Charles Vane.” Vane also discovers that the “unique item” being held by Low is actually Angela Ashe, the daughter of Lord Peter Ashe, the governor of the Carolina colony. She is worth a potentially huge ransom.
Meanwhile Rackham has ambitions to captain his own ship once more but needs Vane’s help in repairing his damaged reputation.
Flashbacks show James’ growing relationship with both Thomas and Lady Hamilton. One that is already leading to a dangerous liason.
One of the real plus points of Black Sails and one of the things that put above most other series is the rich level of background detail in every scene. Money has been well and truly spent and it shows.
