Motorways hold a unique place in British hearts. Love them or loathe them, most people have to use them. They make a huge difference to the national economy, costing the UK millions of pounds every minute that they are closed.
This entertaining and action-packed documentary series premiering on Tuesday 21 February at 7.30pm on ITV, goes behind the scenes and out onto the roads with the characters who work on one of the most famous and busiest motorways in Britain – the M25.
With around 200,000 people using it every day, rush hour is usually chaotic and today things are particularly bad in the first episode of the series.
In Dartford, two traffic collisions have brought the entire area to a standstill. In the M25 Northern Control Room, operator Emily is under pressure. Out on the road, traffic officers Simon and Gary are dealing with a four-car pile-up that is blocking two lanes. Traffic officers Andy and Keith attend a nasty crash between a lorry and a commuter, who has sustained suspected neck injures. The two traffic officers have to keep the emergency services safe on the motorway while they deal with the casualty.
In the middle of all the drama, maintenance crew Jack and Jamie are clearing up a layby full of rubbish and human waste left by lorry drivers – a job not for the faint-hearted.
Britain’s Busiest Motorways airs on Tuesday 21 February 2017 at 7.30pm on ITV.
