Keeley Hawes returns in the role of Louisa Durrell for series two of the hit drama The Durrells based upon Gerald Durrell’s trilogy of Corfu memoirs, including My Family and Other Animals.
On a whim, Louisa had taken her eldest son Larry (Josh O’Connor)’s suggestion and made the life-changing decision to whisk her four unruly children away to the sun-drenched island of Corfu. As well as Larry, there were teenagers Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) and Margo (Daisy Waterstone), and 11-year-old Gerry (Milo Parker).
A feral Gerry is sleeping outside, blissfully happy with his many animals that are also invading the house. They are so poor they have to forgo mosquito nets, resulting in Margo being bitten terribly. Louisa declares that things have to change and decides to sell what meagre produce they can raise from their land at the local market.
A charming Englishman, Hugh Jarvis (Daniel Lapaine), invites Louisa to press her olives at his olive farm. Louisa refuses to be seduced but is unaware of the beautiful yet incredibly jealous Vasilia (Errika Bigiou) watching them. While Leslie helps at the market, Gerry finds otter tracks and Larry, suffering from writer’s block, seeks inspiration for his novel by writing on the beach. Exhausted, Louisa returns home to discover that Vasilia is their new landlady and that rent is overdue. Intent on making life difficult for Louisa, Vasilia takes their furniture and suggests
that the Durrells leave Corfu.
The Durrells Season 2 Episode 1 airs on Sunday 23 April 2017 from 8.00pm-9.00pm on ITV
