Gripping six-part drama Fearless follows Emma Banville (Helen McCrory), a human rights lawyer known for defending lost causes, as she sets out to prove the innocence of Kevin Russell (Sam Swainsbury), who was convicted of the murder of a schoolgirl 14 years prior.
Firmly believing there has been a miscarriage of justice, Emma is determined to reveal the truth and is prepared to go to extreme lengths to discover what happened and free Kevin. However, as Emma digs deeper into the case, risking her career, personal life and reputation, she begins to sense powerful forces at play within the police and intelligence services who want to stop her uncovering the truth.
In the third episode, as Kevin’s retrial begins, time is running out for Emma to clear his name. Meanwhile, Heather (Robin Weigert) feels the strain of the mounting pressure to get him back in jail and wrap up the case once and for all. However, the case is far from over and Emma, determined to do right by Kevin, finally gets a breakthrough with new evidence, but powers outside of her control seem set to crush her attempts to prove Kevin’s innocence.
We are really enjoying this. A great central performance from McCrory who at times seems to be channeling Helen Mirren’s Jane Tennison in her take no nonsense style. The opening titles are fantastic too.
Fearless Episode 3 (of 6) airs Monday 26 June 2017 from 9.00pm-10.00pm on ITV.
