Set in a coastal town in tropical southern India, brand new six-part drama The Good Karma Hospital series tells the story of junior doctor, Ruby Walker (Amrita Acharia), who arrives in India looking for a job and a distraction from the heartbreak she has left back in Britain. She anticipates the sunshine, the palm trees and picture-perfect beaches. She is even prepared for the sacred cows, the tuk- tuks and the Delhi-belly that everyone at home has warned her about.
What she does not expect are the realities of work, life and even love at an under-resourced and over-worked cottage hospital. Run by a gloriously eccentric Englishwoman – Doctor Lydia Fonseca (Amanda Redman) – the Good Karma Hospital is the beating heart of the local community.
In episode four, which airs on Sunday 26 February at 9.00pm on ITV, on the day that he is attending a lavish Indian wedding, Ram (Darshan Jariwalla) clashes with Lydia when a medical case becomes personal. As Ruby treats a patient from the UK whose story does not quite add up, she is left questioning where she truly belongs. Also starring Neil Morrissey, James Floyd, Deepak Verma, Phyllis Logan, Sagar Radia and Nimmi Harasgama.
