A feature length Christmas special of the 1950’s set crime drama Grantchester starring James Norton and Robson Green will on Saturday 24 December on ITV at 9.00pm.
It is the week before Christmas 1954 and vicar Sidney Chambers (James Norton) is rushed off his feet with his official duties. It means he has little time to think about his beloved Amanda (Morven Christie), estranged from her husband and now heavily pregnant.
Sidney loves her – but whether she is married or divorced, in 1954 he knows there is no way a man of the cloth can have a relationship with her. Curate Leonard Finch (Al Weaver) is embarking on an ambitious production of the nativity with the local children, while DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) is as grumpy as Scrooge over the festive season.
A weeping bride, Linda (Maimie McCoy), reports the disappearance of her husband-to-be, and Sidney and Geordie find themselves drawn into picking through the murky motives of the winter wedding. When the would-be groom is found dead with the wedding rings lodged in his mouth, Geordie is horrified – it has all the hallmarks of an unsolved murder from nine years before.
Geordie and Sidney must hunt for the killer, and hope to bring justice to two women mourning for their lost loves at Christmas time. But as the dangers grow, snow starts to fall… just as Amanda’s waters break.
