In the third episode of the new series, which sees James Norton and Robson Green return as the local vicar and detective inspector in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester, Sidney (James Norton), back from a morning run, finds Amanda (Morven Christie) and baby Grace in the vicarage, they exchange pleasantries but keep their distance. Leonard (Al Weaver, pictured above) and his sweetheart Hilary (Emily Bevan) are witness to an armed robbery at the post office.
At the crime scene, Leonard struggles to describe the robber, who was wearing a gas mask. Post office manager Cyril Parker (Charles Dale) arrives in a panic, worried about his daughter Wendy (Eve Ponsonby) who was behind the counter. Back at the police station, Leonard looks through mugshots of armed robbers and recognises one of them – Walter Dunn (Joe Ferrera). With Dunn’s previous conviction for armed robbery, Geordie (Green) takes no chances and leads an armed raid on Dunn’s garage, but they discover Walter at his desk already dead.
As Geordie searches for a connection between the murder and the post office robbery, Phil (Lorne MacFadyen) bursts in – a second robbery is in progress. Geordie speaks to manager Cyril, who tells him there are two robbers wearing gas masks and one of them was a woman. As Geordie and Phil begin the search for Grantchester’s very own Bonnie and Clyde, they focus their investigation on Dunn’s wife Alice (Holly Aird) and her lodger Frank (Tommy McDonnell).
