Brand new eight-part drama series The Halcyon tells the story of a bustling and glamourous grand hotel. Set in London in 1940 against the backdrop of the second world war, the series shows how the life of the capital goes on, through the prism of war and the impact it has on families, relationships, politics and work across every social class.
The Halcyon reveals how the conflict permeates everyone’s lives – from the affluent guests to the loyal, hardworking staff – watched from within by American journalist Joe O’Hara (Matt Ryan). Set to a soundtrack of the music of the era, the acclaimed singer Beverley Knight makes a special guest appearance, performing in the Café de Paris.
In episode three, following the fall of France in June 1940, guests flood into the hotel – including one who catches the eye of Lady Hamilton (Olivia Williams). When Max (Nico Rogner) faces the hostility of the staff, Emma (Hermione Corfield) goes out on a limb to defend him – and immediately regrets it.
Also starring Mark Benton, Kara Tointon, Steven Mackintosh, Annabelle Apsion, Jamie Blackley, Alex Boxall, Nick Brimble, Michael Carter, Lauren Coe, Charles Edwards and Gordon Kennedy.
