Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies, Limitless), Nicholas Pinnock (Fortitude), Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey), and Sinead Cusack (Stealing Beauty, Camelot) star brand new eight-part crime drama series Marcella co-created by Hans Rosenfeldt, the writer behind the Scandinavian smash hit The Bridge.

The series, set in modern-day London, is Rosenfeldt’s first drama created for a UK audience. Marcella Backland (Friel) was shocked to the core when her husband Jason (Pinnock) left her. Heartbroken, Marcella returned to the London Metropolitan Police’s murder squad after having previously given up her police career.

With the abrupt change in her circumstances and feeling estranged from her 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, Backland threw herself into work to hold things together, following up on a hunch about the identity of a notorious serial killer she had chased in 2005 before leaving to have her second child.

In this week’s episode, Jason manages to get his job back – but at what cost? Hassan (Youssef Kerkour) is shot and Mo (Yasen Atour) holds the police responsible. Marcella triumphs over Peter Cullen (Ian Puleston-Davies) and finally gets the information relating to Grace’s death. Meanwhile, deliveryman Ronnie (Toby Wharton) makes the mistake of his life.

The series is on Mondays at 9.00pm on ITV.
