The seventh season of the award-winning Long Lost Family, presented by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell, continues. The first search of the programme comes from Laura Aker in Kirkcaldy. Laura lives with her husband and her three children. The family live just a few streets away from where Laura grew up with her Scottish mother, and the man she thought was her father.
Laura started to wonder if he treated her differently, and asked her mother if he was her real father. Laura’s mum Susan revealed that her real dad was called Andrew Olum Ekpang. Andrew was from Nigeria, and Susan had met him in Scotland when he was training with the Navy.
Susan became pregnant, but Andrew had to return to Nigeria before Laura was born. Andrew promised Susan that he would return to see his daughter but never did. Laura has always wondered why he never returned. Now, after 40 years she is determined to find him.
The second story comes from Linda Lewis in Weston-SuperMare, who lives with her husband of 30 years, Rob. Linda grew up in Bristol as the eldest of five children. When Linda was just five years old her mother Florence died. Linda’s dad Charles worked as a bricklayer, and her mum had stayed at home to care for the children. After her death Charles was unable to cope with five young children, so made the heart-breaking decision to give his five-monthold twin girls up for adoption. 65 years later, Linda still longs for the sisters she lost.
