Home to 14 million hoarders, the USA is going through a hoarding epidemic – and if your home is a health hazard it risks repossession. Keeping it clean is critical, and luckily there’s help from Britain. Some of our most obsessive cleaners have tackled some of the UK’s dirtiest properties and now they’re heading stateside to clean America’s mess.
In each programme, two cleaners join forces to tackle a house of grime and clutter by staying with their host and immersing themselves in the local culture. In this first episode, obsessive cleaners Tina, 52, and Mark, 49, fly to Texas to do battle with 70-year-old Patrick’s home. OCD-diagnosed Tina from Slough and personal trainer Mark from Hampshire confront their phobias and challenge themselves to spend five days attempting to transform the house.
Nestled deep in the Texan countryside, Patrick’s ranch was once a beautiful family home until his wife passed away three years ago. It has collected clutter, cobwebs and dog poo, and has fallen into a state of disrepair. Patrick’s daughter, Chante, has been married to her husband for 16 years, and has never taken him or her children to the house as she was too embarrassed. How will Tina and Mark cope with the filth, the spiders and the Texan way of life? And will they manage to clean up the house in time for a visit from Patrick’s grandchildren?
