In this brand new two-part special, renowned animal lover Paul O’Grady take his first ever trip to India to meet the country’s vulnerable wild animals and experience the jobs of the keepers and conservationists who dedicate their lives to looking after them.
In the first episode, Paul experiences the sights and sounds of city life in northern India as he makes his way to an elephant sanctuary south of Delhi, where he meets overweight elephant Lakshmi. Next, Paul meets a baby monkey with back leg problems and soon becomes his masseur, before heading back to the elephant sanctuary to meet Mohan, who is in a bad way following 50 years being chained up.
After travelling over a thousand miles east to Assam, Paul arrives in time for a beautiful sunset boat trip, where he hears about devastating flooding in the area and learns why the animals here – including nine baby rhinos – are in need of help.
After a spot of tea picking, Paul is excited to meet a very rare animal: Ripu the clouded leopard. The vet treats his injured paw as Paul watches on in awe at encountering such a rare creature. After more exciting rhino encounters, Paul learns about the Manas National Park, where rescued rhinos have already been released and are thankfully thriving. Finally, how will Paul cope as Ripu is released back into the jungle?
