Prime Suspect 1973, the prequel about the early career of DCI Jane Tennison continues with Stefanie Martini in the role as a young police officer, with episode 4 airing on Thursday 23 March at 9.00pm on ITV.
Following the arrest of the mysterious Oz, the investigation takes an unexpected twist. At the cafe, Silas (Anthony Skordi) tells an investigating policeman that they are carrying out refurbishments and shows him a permit. Clifford (Alun Armstrong) and John (Lex Shrapnel) confront David (Jay Taylor) about his worsening drug habit and unreliability. Clifford phones the prison to ask Clay Whitely for more time but Clay will not relent. They have to go through with it.
A badly beaten Terrence O’Duncie (Aaron Pierre) is brought into the station. Gibbs (Blake Harrison) tries to play it down, but Bradfield (Sam Reid) senses there may be repercussions. Bradfield questions O’Duncie about his connection with Julie Ann, but progress is halted when O’Duncie’s solicitor announces that they are filing an official complaint against DS Gibbs for police brutality. Gibbs finds himself investigated by anti-corruption officers from A10.
Bradfield pays Jane a visit at home to ask her to lie about what she saw. As he leaves, he kisses her again. Jane’s mother sees them and is appalled, telling Jane that she is playing a dangerous game. The next day, Jane is interviewed by A10 and has to decide where her loyalties lie.
