Prime Suspect 1973

Prime Suspect gets all Endeavour on us in this gripping prequel set in 1970s London and following the early career of the formidable DCI Jane Tennison, originally portrayed by Academy award-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren. The series premieres on Thursday 2 March at 9.00pm on ITV.

In an age rife with chauvinism, WPC Tennison (Stefanie Martini) begins her mission to break through the ranks using her signature tenacity and uncanny instincts. But her ambitions draw her into the depths of a brutal murder enquiry that will test the iconic character to her very limits.

In the first episode, when the body of teenage girl Julie-Ann Collins is found in the underground car park of a Hackney housing estate, probationer WPC Jane Tennison becomes immersed in her first murder investigation. Jane’s superior, the handsome DI Bradfield (Sam Reid), thinks the victim’s drug addict boyfriend, Eddie Phillips (Jacob James Beswick), is hiding something but cannot get him to talk in interview.

Meanwhile, in prison, Clifford Bentley (Alun Armstrong) is desperate to find a way out of an upcoming bank job he and his family are doing for gangland kingpin Clay Whitely (Dorian Lough). On the outside, his wife Renee (Ruth Sheen) is concerned their son David (Jay Taylor) is paying too much attention to Julie-Ann Collins’ murder.
