The four part adaptation of Alex Haley’s Roots continues with episode 2 airing on BBC Four on Wednesday 15 February at 9.00pm

The American Revolutionary War, 1782. Ten years after being bought as a slave, Kunta (Malachi Kirby) escapes and is enlisted to fight for the English army.

But his hopes of freedom are soon brutally crushed. Kunta marries beautiful slave Belle (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and the two have a daughter, Kizzy (Emyri Crutchfield), who grows up to be a bright, defiant young woman, inheriting her father’s spirit – with both good and dire consequences.
