The State Episode 2

The second part of Peter Kosminsky’s powerful new drama, The State, that follows four young British men and women who have left their lives behind to join Isis in Raqqah, Syria in 2015. The recruits are forced to reflect on their new lives in The State. Jalal (Sam Otto) calls his mother, revealing that he’s followed his older brother to Syria. She’s devastated, and pleads with him to return but, before he can respond, the unit is hit by a drone strike and one of his comrades is killed.

Shakira (Ony Uhiara) witnesses the horrifying aftermath of a barrel bomb, and Ushna (Shavani Cameron) is shocked at the brutal treatment of women. Shakira must persuade a dangerous commander to overcome Isis rules and allow her to work in hospital, and Jalal has a conversation that makes him question the whole rationale for his journey to Syria. Continues tomorrow.
