Wasting Away: The Truth About Anorexia airs Thurs 24 Aug on Channel 4

In very personal documentary Wasting Away: The Truth About Anorexia, award-winning reporter and news presenter Mark Austin and his daughter Maddy explore the devastating impact of eating disorders and investigate whether the healthcare system in this country is providing appropriate care. After they publicly spoke out about their experience at the start of 2017, they have been inundated with messages of support from across the country, including from HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.

In the programme, Prince William speaks to Mark and Maddy about his hopes for a more open attitude towards talking about mental health. His mother, Diana Princess of Wales, famously spoke openly about her own struggle with bulimia. Meeting patients and relatives, Mark and Maddy explore the lengthy waiting lists for treatment, the extremely limited number of beds for people with eating disorders and the postcode lottery that determines the level of care that patients receive.
