ANTARCTICA - DVD REVIEW

Beyond Home Entertainment / Region 4 / Released September 2009 and Rated R18+

Featuring Guy Zo-Arietz, Lucy Dubinchik, Tomer Ilan

Well we can truthfully say we haven't come across two many gay themed rom-coms set and made in Israel, in fact we can safely say this is our first ever! It's not for the easily offended with its graphic scenes (it is rated R18+ for a reason of course) but it is a smartly written take on the classic Italian movie La Ronde.

The story focuses on various relationships as they come together and unravel, the dialogue is clever and director Yair Hochner (who also wrote the script) offers up a wonderful view of Tel Aviv that is a real eye opener. You tend to be swayed by the news images of the city that we are constantly witness to so its surprising to see it here in its vibrant pomp.

Antartica is not going to be to everyone's taste with its frank, very frank in fact, look at homosexual relationships which is a shame really as its pretty heartening to see that normal, middle class thirty somethings are the same wherever you live and no matter how trying the circumstances!
