BRUTE FORCE by ANDY McNAB
Published by Random House / 1 November 2008
Andy McNab writes books for men, real men and don't you forget it. Seriously though, McNab's latest, Brute Force is a new Nick Stone thriller and like Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Stone takes no prisoners. It's a startling thrilling tale, Stone is forced to journey into the heart of his own past when he investigates a series of murders that point to revenge attacks for a raid some 20 years before on cargo ship that had been heavily laden with illegal weaponry.
Forced to team up with an old colleague to get to the bottom of the mystery, Stone, who works for British Intelligence on what are known as deniable missions, has to pull out all the stops to not only catch the killers but also save the lives who are nearest to him.
McNab, himself a former member of the SAS, writes at breakneck speed, in staccato bursts that completely hook you in. The ring of authenticity also sounds out loud and clear, McNab actually has to write under an assumed name because of his knowledge of the inner workings of the world of covert operations.
This is the eleventh Nick Stone book and is a must read for all fans of the genre.
