Castle XY: Season opener reviewed

Season 8 of Castle premiered on the ABC network last night with a new sense of urgency and some new blood too. In the first of a two part story XY it was trouble once for the Castles with Beckett (Stana Katic) going missing during an investigation.

The day had started off well with Castle (Nathan Fillion) planning to surprise his wife with cake to celebrate her new role but a phone call from Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) asking for help at a crime scene soon plunges them all into danger.

Not only are there three victims but Castle also finds blood from the shooter and a bracelet belonging to Beckett. It’s clear Beckett is on a mission of her own that she has also kept to her self. During the search for clues Castle meets for Scotland Yard cop turned security specialist Hayley (Toks Olagundoye) who very quickly makes her presence and skill set felt.

Castle is not too surprised to find the trail leads to an old acquaintance who has definitely a score to settle with Beckett: the former Senator Bracken (Jack Coleman) while sitting in jail has been visited by the new police captain.

There are twists and turns aplenty and the cool thing here is next week’s episode will follow the same course of events but from Beckett’s viewpoint.
