FRINGE SEASON ONE DVD REVIEW

Even before you open up this great box set youknow you are in for something special, a very groovy hologram cover features the three leads which turns into images of fossils whilst equations and words like teleportation mingle in the background. Very well done and managing to combine key aspects of the series together nicely.
In Fringe, which was co-created by Lost alumni J.J. Abrams, FBI agent Olivia Dunham (played by feisty Australian Anna Torv) teams up with Peter Bishop and his father Dr Walter Bishop (a former scientist who just happens to have spent the last 17 years in a mental institution!) to crack a series of disturbing events which they come to discover are linked. Calling the phenomenon "The Pattern" the trio discover that some sinister all powerful organisation aka The Massive Dynamic, are basically using the world as a testing ground for their own devious ends.
Fringe is a hugely entertaining piece of Cult TV (in the sense that it deals with things that are not the domain of your average drama series) and comes across like a cross between a CSI type show and the X-Files, with a dash of Matrix/Illuminati shadowy world domination for good measure. The leads gel very well together. Joshua Jackson, in particular, as Peter Bishop has a nice line in sardonic wit.
Scary at times and also thought provoking, there really is just so much stuff going on that we have no idea about and Fringe channels into that very well, wisely though keeps mostly within the realms of possibility.
Fringe definitely qualifies as must see TV, Abrams clearly has the touch and he doesn't disappoint here. Recommended viewing.
Extras are good too and include featurettes on the genesis of the show as well as the real life science that guides. There is also a look at the visual effects, numerous unaired scenes, mini documentaries, a gag reel and a production diary.
