HELL'S KITCHEN USA SERIES TWO AND THREE

Time Life DVD / Region 4 / Out Now

Gordon Ramsay, over the last 18 months, has quite literally taken over the world, knocking David Beckham off his perch as most popular Brit abroad. One of the biggest reasons for this is his Hell's Kitchen USA TV show. Time Life are releasing the series on DVD and now out is series two and three (available to buy separately).

It's a classic concept for old Gordo McSweary to really show his chops (groan!) as he takes charge of a competition in which 12 wannabe head chefs try and win their own restaurant. Starting out with two teams of six, the red team and the blue team, each episode sees the two groups working together from the food being prepped to the actual dinner service itself. The teams have to try and get as many meals served as possible to the Hell's Kitchen restaurant patrons (the restaurant is clearly on some Hollywood backlot somewhere and each episode features at least one person, ie actor, who complains to front desk about poor service and has to suffer Gordon swearing and abusing them!)

Service very seldom, if ever, goes according to plan and Gordon is usually forced to "Shut it Down" before the evening is over. Ramsay then picks a team he thinks has performed best on the night and they get a special treat whilst the losing team has to do the dirty work for the next day. The losing team also has to put forward two members for elimination. Gordon chooses out of the two and they are forced to hand in their chefs jacket. As the teams dwindle they eventually join to become a single black team until eventually just two chefs are involved in the final cook off.

It's a fantastic series, hugely enjoyable and watchable. Ramsay is a real star and he knows it! The format is your standard reality game show but with the twist that basically Ramsay can do whatever he likes, he chooses who goes and is more than happy to against the choices of the team.

Most of the contestants are already accomlished chefs (although some arn't!) and do know their way around a kitchen. Virginia from season two was easily the stand out (in more ways than one) flirting outrageously with Ramsay but it was Tom who cracked us up with his comments about being a "schvetter" when he was spotted dripping beads of sweat off the end of his nose into the food he was prepping.

If you haven't seen Hell's Kitchen yet then you are in for a definite treat, if you are already familiar with it then you'll know just how priceless it is!!
