MOBILE
Acorn Media USA / Region 1 / Released 7 October 2008 in a two disc set
Featuring Michael Kitchen, Keith Allen, Julie Graham, Samantha Bond
The excellent Michael "Foyle's War" Kitchen heads the cast of this superior thriller. Mobile is a foour part ITV drama from last year and focuses on a sinister plot to destroy Britain's communications network, blowing up mobile phone towers and shooting dead innocent cell phone users on the street, the police are powerless to stop the mayhem but it seems three men; An engineer, a former soldier and a telecom executive may hold the key to what is going on.
There is a clever technique with the serial as each of the first three episodes focuses on a different lead character before the fourth brings everything together for a shattering and thrilling finale. Tracking back and forth across the time lines we follow engineer Eddie Doig (Neil Fitzmaurice) who is initially prime suspect in the case after police discover he has a serious grudge against his old telecommunications company whilst we also track back to 2003 with former army sniper Maurice Stoan (Jamie Draven) who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife and son in a hit and run accident; Also hevaily involved in the story is none too pleasant mobile phone magnate Sir James Corson (Kitchen) who has let nothing stand in his way in his climb to the top.
The fourth episode brings everything together and nobody is quite who they seem to be. We can't really give too much away here without spoiling things but with its fast pace and clever central idea Mobile is quality entertainment indeed.
Surprisingly this drama has yet to be screened on USTV so make sure you seek this 2 volume set out, it is well worth spending some time with.
