MY WORD IS MY BOND by ROGER MOORE

Published by Harper Collins November 2008

The name's Moore - Roger Moore, eyebrow raisingly, dashing knitwear catalogue specialist. Celebrated as the gadget lovers James Bond and forever loved as the iconic Saint, one of Roger Moore's first paying jobs in the biz was modelling for knitting catalogues. Never taking himself too seriously Moore is more than happy to tell all about his life and career in this supremely entertaining autobiography.

My Word is My Bond takes us from Moore's debut performance (being born to Lily Moore in 1927 and her police constable husband Alfred) to his struggling actor years then making it big in TV in legendary series such as Ivanhoe, Maverick and of course The Saint and The Persuaders before the golden years of the 1970's and time spent playing James Bond.

Told with a great deal of charm and with his tongue firmly in his cheek Moore talks fondly of his parents and its clear that the love he was shown in growing up transplanted nicely into his own offspring. TV fans will love the Saint remeniscences too - the series that made him into a really big star, he also touches on his time on The Persuaders, the archetypal ITC action adventure series in which he co-starred with Tony Curtis. Moore also spends plenty of time of his Bond years and lays to rest the talk of his unwilling exit from the series (not so says Moore - he and legendary producer Cubby Broccoli mutually agreed to call it a day).

Sir Roger (he was knighted in 2003) has a pretty much inexhaustible supply of anecdotes and stories of his fellow actors and the writers and directors he has worked with, everyone from David Niven to Richard Burton gets a look in. Moore also doesn't hold back on the fruity language either, particularly in the sections dealing with ex-wife Dorothy Squires who was fond of a drink or three. 81 now and still in fine form, Moore has devoted much of his latter years in working with UNICEF - indeed a donation is being made to the charity for every book sold.

Roger Moore is a highly likable fellow and has also written a highly likeable autobiography.
