LINKSRAMSAY'S KITCHEN NIGHTMARES UK COMPLETE SERIES ONE
Acorn Media US / Region 1 / Released 3 March 2009
Featuring Gordon Ramsay
Currently one of the most well known people in the world uber chef Gordon Ramsay is quite simply everywhere at the moment with not just two hit US shows being major ratings winners in the shape of Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares USA but the real gem on his CV is the English version of his Nightmares show and cannily spotting this, the folk at Acorn bring us the first season of the show on DVD.
The UK version of Nightmares is where Ramsay became Gordo McSweary and in this first set of four episodes he is a suprisingly much calmer and genuine person and the show is all the better for it. A chef of great experience and renown of course, with 12 michelin stars to his name, Ramsay certainly knows how to make a restaurant work and be successful. The idea for the show is simple. Ramsay visits a restaurant that is on the verge of collapse, spends a week with the owners and straff pointing out their deficiencies, creating new menus and generally trying to get the restaurant back on its feet. The owners are generally happy to take this on board even if they sometimes think he is being overly critical.
In this first series he visits Bonapartes in Yorkshire, The Glasshouse in The Lake District, The Walnut Tree Inn in Wales and Moore Park in Surrey and what is particularly pleasing about this two disc set is that it also includes the revisits that Gordon made to the restaurants around a year later. So you can watch the original visits on disc one whilst the second disc offers the slightly rejigged versions that includes the revisits where Gordon finds out whether things really have changed.
Gordon is a natural TV personality and the Nightmares series is a great show, the English version in particular. Here we get to see the very beginnings of the Ramsay mania! This is definitely recommended.
The set also includes production notes and a bio of Ramsay.
