SESAME STREET - FOLLOW THAT BIRD

Warner Bros / Region 1 / Released 24 March 2009

Featuring Big Bird, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, Chevy Chase, John Candy, Sandra Bernhard

Hard to believe that Follow That Bird is approaching its 25 birthday, it's a great slice of fun, reminiscent of the classic Muppet's movies. Natural enough given that many of the same people were involved. Sesame Street is, of course, that incredibly long running educational pre-school series that focuses on the multi-cultural animals and people that live in the sesame street of the title.

In Follow The Bird we have Big Bird, the giant Yellow Dodo who is one of the main stars of the series, being sent off to Illinois because a "friendly" social worker, Miss Finch, feels that he should go and live on a Dodo farm, once there he is soon very unhappy and decides to runaway. Of course his friends, including Bert and Ernie, The Count, Grover, Oscar and Telly, quickly set out to find him, each choosing a different mode of transport to do so, The Count takes his Countmobile, Bert and Ernie take a plane whilst Grover dons his Supergrover outfit.

Big Bird meanwhile is trying to find his way back to Sesame Street and meeting some great characters along the way, from Watlon Jennings as a truck driver and John Candy as a state trooper (there are also guest roles for Sandra Bernhard as a waitress and Chevy Chase as a newsreader). Big Bird manages to get home of course and the social worker Miss Finch learns that not everybody is the same and that Big Birds real family is at Sesame Street.

Follow That Bird is still extremely cute and enjoyable, there are some great songs too, not least Bert and Ernie's Upside Down World and Big Bird's I'm So Blue.

For any fan of the series this is a definite must have and is well worth introducing to your kids.
