SRI OWEN'S INDONESIAN FOOD

Harper Collins/ Published 1 October 2008

Over the last 30 odd years Sri Owen has become the name when it comes to Indonesian cuisine and her latest, beautifully cloth bound release, Indonesian Food, is almost a summation of not just her food ideas but also her life serving as both a fantastic collection of recipies and also a marvellous insight into Owen's upbringing and experiences of the ever changing face of English cooking, (one could quite easily imagine the paucity of authentic ingredients when she first arrived in the UK in 1964) and latterly her developing interest in Italian Food and Drink.

Divided into two main parts with reminiscence and recipies taking up the first part and the technical bits taking up part two with essential ingredients and key techniques (this section also features recipes).

This 120+ and delicious looking it has to be said, recipies in the book, cover not just Java and Sumatre but also Bali, Sulawesi and Kalimantan, all are beautifully photographed by Gus Filgate.

Our standard measure for any cookbook has to be how many recipies you want to try and how soon you want to try them, and Indonesian Food is already heading up our favourites charts.

Easy to follow, beautiful to look at and a marvellous insight into the life of a great food writer.
