SWING VOTE

Roadshow Home Entertainment / Region 4 / Released February 2009

Featuring Kevin Costner, Paula Patton, Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane

Kevin Costner, whose career has undergone something of a revitalisation over the last few years, is actually a far more versatile actor than he is generally given credit for. Here in engaging comedy Swing Vote, he plays good ol' boy Bud Johnston, a single dad who is more than fond of a drink or nine and within the first ten minutes of the movie has also lost his job. The one bright spot in his life is his clever 12 year old daughter Molly (newcomer Madelaine Carroll) who creates the central conceit that the film hangs on. When Bud is too drunk to show up to vote in the presidential election Molly decides to sneak in and cast the vote herself, only for the electronics to break down mid vote; When it turns out that Bud's missing vote is the one that is actually going to decide the next president of the united states (highly improbable but it could happen) he finds himself caught in a whirlwind of media attention and is the target of highly focused campaigns by the two candidates and their huge entourages; Refusing to initially play their games and finally, with help from Molly and a local, pretty TV reporter, Bud eventually realises just what he has got going for him.

Quite warm hearted and quite funny once it establishes itself. Swing Vote also has an interesting cast - from Kelsey Grammer and Dennis Hopper's presidential candidates to Nathan Lane and Stanley Tucci as their campaign managers.

A feel good friday night flick.

Extras are made up of a behind the scenes featurette and the theatrical trailer.
