LINKSSTAR WARS - THE CLONE WARS: A GALAXY DIVIDED
Warner Bros / Region 1 / Released 24 March 2009
Anyone with a young son in the house will know just how fabulous this new take on the Star Wars franchise is. Following on from the movie that introduced the format last year, this fantastically exciting show takes place between the events of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The computer animation looks as good as anything you'd see on the big screen and the story picks up directly from the events of the Clone Wars movie (which saw Anakin being forced to take on a new young Padawan, basically a trainee jedi, by Yoda, with the pair of them getting involved in a plot by Jabbo's Uncle Ziro and Count Dooku).
The set is made up of the first four episodes of the series, Ambush and the three parter Rising Malevolence, Shadow of Malevolence and Destroy Malevolence. Ambush focuses on Yoda who is forced to do battle with Asaj Ventress, one of Dooku's key assassins. Whilst the Malevolence trilogy sees Anakin and Obi-Wan have to bring down the warship Malevolence when Padme and C3-PO end up aboard it after being caught in a trap. The pair infiltrate their way into the ship with the hope of taking it down from within.
With a mass of action and lightsabre battles aplenty The Clones Wars is the kind of series that satisfies on numerous levels, it entertains the young fans with its battles and quickness of pace, it hooks in the casual viewer (ie dads) with strong storylines and hooks in the Star Wars aficianado with its numerous tie-ins to the main series. Made with the full input of George Lucas, The Clones Wars is also a fully fledged part of the Star Wars continuum and provides a massive amount of detail to the events between movies 2 and 3.
Roll on volume two and the good news is Lucas has already indicated that he would like to take the series to at least a hundred episodes!
