THE INVISIBLES DVD REVIEW

Acorn Media US / Region 1 / Out Now

Featuring Anthony Head, Warren Clarke, Jenny Agutter, Dean Lennox Kelly

Long time friends and criminal associates Maurice Riley (the excellent Anthony Head) and Syd Woolsey (the equally excellent Warren Clarke) have spent the last 15 years living it up on Spain's Costa Del Crime spending the proceeds of their nefarious gains. However the duo have decided that the time is right to return home to the UK and try to make a go of the straight life - much to the happiness of Maurice's long suffering wife (played by the ever lovely Jenny Agutter). It's not too long of course that Maurice and Syd are feeling tempted by the call of crime, especially when local pub landlord Dean Lennox Kelly thinks he has the perfect job lined up. The only trouble is, crime isn't what it used to be and the now less than dynamic duo find themselves somewhat out of their depth.

Yet to be seen on USTV but a success on the BBC last year, the 6 parter (in a 2 volume set) fits nicely into the comedy crime caper drama. With strong scripts, heavy on humour and incident and sparkling playing from the two leads, The Invisibles is high quality viewing.

No extras but once again Acorn offer up a chance to spend some time with strong British TV.

TRIVIA: Anthony Head's real life daughter Emily plays his daughter in the show.
