TOM AND JERRY TALES VOLUME SIX
Warner Bros Kids / Region 1 / Released 3 February
Another supremely entertaining batch of episodes bringing us life in the raw as lived by the warring cat Tom and mouse Jerry. The dynamic duo have been going for so long now that they are quite rightly icons of the animation world and this relatively new take, seen on Kids WB is right up there with some of the original cinema cartoons. Kids will get a great deal of fun out of their antics and luckily it is the kind of show that isn't too painful for adults to watch, in fact it will manage to touch quite a few nostalgia buttons no doubt. One thing that has changed from the vintage movie days though is that Tom and Jerry now sometimes speak and even sing!!!
The 15 episodes featured here range from Tom and Jerry being caught up in mischief at the time of the declaration of independence, Tom is Thomas Jefferson's cat in this one.
Quite a few of the episodes here touch on an historical theme with trips to the gold rush era and also a visit to the Orville and Wilbur Wright which sees Jerry actually inventing plane travel!
Sports is also covered with a ice hockey tangle in Hockey Schtick, there is also a trio of music based episodes DJ Jerry, Kitty Cat Blues and Flamenco Fiasco which involve much singing and dancing. Tom and Jerry also find time to go on safari and visit the outback of Australia. The final trio of episodes have quite the traditional feel about them with Butch the dog also doing battle with Tom.
A classic animation that has stood the test of time then, no extras but there are trailers for other WB Kids titles including the Wiggles and Scooby Doo.
