TOM AND JERRY'S GREATEST CHASES VOLUME THREE

Warner Home Video / Region 1 / Released October 13, 2009

Having been around for well over half a century the ever fighting twosome know just what it is that keeps us laughing our socks off across the generations! This new collection of 14 classic toons features a short which won an Oscar (the excellent The Two Musketeers) and another that garnered a nomination (Touche Pussy Cat). This tells just in how high esteem the antics of the warring cat (Tom) and mouse (Jerry) were held not only by the cinemagowers of the time but critics as well.

One of the big things to remember, and it is something I think a lot of modern viewers tend to forget, is that the original T&J shorts were made to be seen on the big screen. It doesn't happen these days but in times past a trip to the cinema was a full evening out, with a main feature, a B-Picture, a short comedy, a newsreel and two or three cartoons, which of course is where Tom and Jerry found their natural home.

The central premise of the toons never changes. Tom chases jerry and will to incredible lengths to try and catch him and Jerry gets the better of Tom. It's as simple as that, there is plenty of slapstick and occasional appearances from other characters most notably the maid and Butch the Bulldog. The main thing though is that the shenanigans that the pair get involved in are incredibly funny, its the type of visual humour that translates completely across the ages and never seems to go out of fashion .

There are no extras but the fourteen episodes do run for well over an hour and fans of the duo would do more than well to seek out this third volume.
