YELLOWSTONE: BATTLE FOR LIFE DVD REVIEW
Warner Home Video / Region 1 / Released September 29, 2009
Blu-Ray is definitely the perfect format to watch this truly stunning High Definition portrait of one year in the life of Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone is one of the most amazing environments on Earth, a huge lost world of endless plains and dense forests surrounded on all sides by mountains. A place where Americas last great bison herds roam and wolves run free. Besides the wild life that inhabits the area Yellowstone also has more geysers and bubbling mud pits than the rest of the world put together. This new release features three hour long episodes which explores the whole of the park in all its glory.
Episode One is Winter: The Wolf's Story, when Yellowstone is locked in the grip of a deep winter, covered in snow for up to six months of the year. For most of its animals its a time of conserving energy but one animal is in its prime - The Wolf. The second episode is Summer and follows a mother grizzly bear and her cubs as she teaches them how to survive, how to hunt fish in the frozen rivers and when to make the move further up into Yellowstone's Alpine peaks.
The final episode, Autumn: The Great Herds Story sees the whole array of wildlife of the park gearing up for the coming winter, whether they need to move on or begin making preperations for staying, the Beavers have to repair dams and keep their larders fully stocked before the rivers freeze again, meanwhile the elk are moving down the valley, distracted by thoughts of mating even though the wolves are on the prowl.
This is a fabulous glimpse into this mind blowing world, never before seen with such clarity, the set also features a half hour bonus feature looking at the people of Yellowstone.
