SKINS SERIES FOUR
Skins is once more back on our screens, showing on E4 Thursdays @ 9.00pm. Catherine Balavage was our girl on the scene for a recent preview of what's in store.Upon arriving at the BFI for the preview screening of Skins - Series 4, I was taken aback by the amount of hysterical teenagers. I wasn't born when The Beatles were around but I would say the reaction was pretty much the same. Any time one of the cast was spotted a million cameras went off and you had to cover your ears. The women sitting beside me - who looked like she was in her 30's - kept loudly proclaiming to her friend that she couldn't believe the cast were sitting in the audience.
Skins is one of the most popular teen shows in recent history. If not the most popular. It isn't hard to see why. Although controversial and to some unrealistic ( my teen years were nothing like that ) Skins is brilliantly written and superbly acted. The first episode of the fourth series is one of the strongest ever opening episodes I have ever seen in any TV series. Written by Jamie Brittain ( Who is prolific on Twitter and does his best to answer back - follow him! )
Darker than any other series opening, it focuses on Thomas. Played brilliantly by Merveille Lukeba, who is actually from South London. It still has the sex and the drugs but it's more grown up. Deeper.
Creators Brian Elsley and Jamie Brittain should be incredibly proud. In the Q & A afterwards with Boyd Hilton Jamie Brittain let slip a few secrets, one of which will be the return of James Fitch. The younger brother of the twins.
There is currently an American pilot of Skins being produced for MTV and it's pretty much a given that there will be another series.
Skins is brave and brilliant. It's must watch TV. Don't miss it.
