Spin off from the 1999 TV serial and Steven
Soderburgh's movie version. USA's three-part
2004 cable miniseries incorporates the structure
of its predecessors -- overlapping plots about
the heroin trade spanning several time zones --
but the stories are all new, and every bit as
addictive. Traffic: The Miniseries offers a
triptych of provocative, complex tales packed
with flawed heroes, ruthless villains and amoral
middlemen. It unfolds like a novel as it weaves
an ingenious web of intrigue that entangles
disparate individuals from Afghanistan to
Seattle. The three main players are DEA agent
Mike McKay (Elias Koteas), failed real-estate
speculator Ben Edmonds (Balthazar Getty) and
immigrant Russian cabbie Adam Kadyrov (Cliff
Curtis).
