It was always going to be the case, as with any long running show where most of the starting line up has moved on, BBC One are calling time on crime drama New Tricks. It will finish once it’s twelfth still to air season has been broadcast.
Original stars of the series Alun Armstrong, James Bolam, Dennis Waterman and Amanda Redman have all departed and a completely different set of ex-cops have been brought into the fold in the shape of Denis Lawson, Larry Lamb, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Tamzin Outhwaite. All great actors of course but many felt the show had run it’s course before they came on board.

Lovers of British crime fiction will be settling themselves in front of ABC-1 for the whole evening on Saturday 7 February 2015 from 7.30pm as the network gives us series returns of both New Tricks and Foyle’s War.
New Tricks is first up at 7.30pm with Dennis Waterman at the centre of things for this first episode as he investigates the possible murder of an architecture student. The rest of the cast includes the lovely Denis Lawson and Tamzin Outhwaite.

Veteran actor of quality Larry Lamb has become the latest in what seems to be an increasingly long line of cast members joining the New Tricks team.
He will be replacing Dennis Waterman as Ted Case, a former cop who is drafted back into the UCOS fold. The departure of Waterman, in a two part special at the beginning of the 2015 season, means that the series no longer features any original cast members. The 12th season line up will be Tamzin Outhwaite, Denis Lawson, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Lamb. Popular actors all of course and it should mean that the series can potentially continue for a good few season yet.
