Host was Les Crane (and the show initially known as The Les Crane Show). For a brief period between Feb and June 1965 guest hosts replaced Crane. Other regulars on the show were William B. AMERICA'S TOWN MEETING USA / ABC / x30m-e / 1948-52 ( 5 October 48 - 6 July 52 / Tuesday 8.30pm then Sundays 6.30pm) black and white Debate show hosted by George V. Denny Jr (1948-52) and then John Daly (1952). The show came from New York's Town Hall auditorium and was based on a long running radio show of the same title.
ANSWERS FOR AMERICANS USA / ABC / x30m-e / 1953-54 (11 November 53 - June 54) A debate style show hosted by Hardy Burt and made up of a regular panel discussing the big issues of the day. The panel were Brigadier General Frank Howles, Devin Garrity, Dr Charles Hodges and John K. Norton.
THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW USA / Syndicated-Paramount / 1248x60m-e / 1989-94 (First Episode: 3 January 1989) Popular late night talk show with all the usual ingredients (comedy routines, musical moments and the core of the show - the guests). The black Arsenio never quite scaled the heights of Letterman but often came close. Burt Richardson was the announcer and Michael Wolff led the band.
ART FORD ON BROADWAY USA / ABC / x15m-e / 1950 (5 April - 30 June / 3 times a week Wednesday - Friday 7.15pm) black and white Talk show hosted by Art Ford from Broadway. The shows title was later changed to Art Ford on the Broadways of the World.
ASIAN CLUB UK /BBC / 1953-61 Debate show. Members of various Asian countries debate issues with guest speakers, among whom included the likes of Bertrand Russell and the actor Kenneth More.
ASPEL AND CO UK / LWT / x60m-e / 1984-93 Chat show. Michael Aspel's weekend big name attracting show including on one infamous occasion a blind drunk Oliver Reed in 1986 who proceeded to sing 'The Wild One', fellow guests on this show were Su Pollard and Clive James. Aspel was the first UK chat show host to have a serving Prime Minister (Margaret Thatcher) appear on his show.
AT ISSUE USA / ABC / x15m-e / 1953-54 (Broadcast: 12 July 53 - June 54) Sundays at 9pm then Wednesdays at 8pm and then Sunday afternoons. A talk show with a pretty serious face, hosted by Martin Agroneg who mainly spoke to the newsmakers, politicians etc.
BARRYMORE London Weekend Television / 55x60m-e / 1991-97 Often bizarre mixture of chat, music and comedy hosted by Michael Barrymore. The guests mainly seemed to consist of obscure elderly music hall acts and youngsters. One segment of the show with Michael out and about i Britains shopping malls hosting talent contests led to a full series. This was called Michael Barrymore's My Kind of People and ran on ITV from 1995-96 (episodes were 30 minutes long).

THE BRIAN CONLEY SHOW UK / ITV Network (Thames) /24x60m-e / 2000-2002 Producer: Mark Robson / Executive Producer: John Fisher / Titles: Bill Wilson A mixture of chat, music and sketches presided over by comedian Billy Conley. Guests were pretty good quality and consisted of a mix of big name Hollywood actors (Kathleen Turner, Jim Belushi, Stefanie Powers etc), UK actors (Neil Morrissey, Diana Rigg, Josie Lawrence), pop acts (Westlife, Ronan Keating etc) and some more esoteric guests such as the trainer of Waldo the Juggling Fly.
THE BROADCASTERS UK / Sky Sports 1 / x60m-e / 1999-2000 Talk show. Main sky sports presenter Richard Keys talks to sports broadcasters about their careers, those interviewed included Jimmy Hill, Kenneth Wolstenholme, Brian Moore and Martin Tyler.
BROADWAY OPEN HOUSE USA / NBC / x60m-e / 1950-51 29 May 50 - 24 August 51 / Mostly shown nightly at 11.00pm Broadcast five times a week and mixing variety and sketches in amongst the chat. A kind of forerunner of the Tonight Show. Strangely the show had different hosts at the same time. Jerry Lester (three times a week) and Morey Amsterdam (twice weekly). In May 1951 after the departure of both Lester and Amsterdam the show went thrice weekly and Jack Leonard hosted. Regulars on the show included the dumb blonde 'Dagmar' (actress Jennie Lewis), Dave Street, The Milton Delus Quartet, Ray Malone, Wayne Howell, The Honeydreamers, The Mellolarks, Bob Warren (1951) and Richard Hayes (1951).
