LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

The talk show that turned the talk show format on its head with Letterman setting out to enjoy himself as much as the audience, the show had traditional guests but Letterman had more fun with elements with items like The Top Ten list, small town news and Stupid Pet Tricks. Letterman left NBC after strangely being passed over for the Tonight Show in favour of Jay Leno. Letterman then switched over to CBS and carried on in more or less the same vein, see below for details of that show. Letterman also had regular assistance from Larry 'Bud' Melman as played by Calvert DeForest, the shows bandleader was Paul Shaffer.

LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

USA / CBS / x60m-e / 1993-continuing weeknights 11.35pm

Basically a continuation of the above but with a change of channel after Letterman didn't get the Tonight seat. Letterman was not allowed to use any of the items from the NBC show (top ten etc) but soon came up with more, these CBS shows came from the Ed Sullivan Theater  and Paul Shaffer again led the band (now called the CBS orchestra), Calvert DeForest was also still around and this time under his own name. Letterman has recently undergone major heart surgery but is getting the show back to something like their best.
