KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU WITH ALAN PARTRIDGE UK / BBC2-Talkback / 6x30m-e 1x40m-e / 1994-95 Season 1: 16 September - 21 October 1994 / Special: 29 December 1995 Writers: Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Patrick Marber, Rebecca Front / Producer: Armando Iannucci / Executive Producer: Peter Fincham Spoof chat show in which an increasingly deranged Alan Partridge (played by Steve Coogan) harangued his guests and let things fall to pieces around him. The title of the show came from Partridges love of the pop group Abba. The show was based on a 1992 Radio Four series of the same name.
THE LAST RESORT WITH JONATHAN ROSS UK / Channel Four-Callander-Channel X / x45m-e / 1987-90 Producer: Colin Callander Chat show which proved to be Jonathan Ross's big break, the show was styled on the American David Letterman show. In 1988 the title was shortened to just The Last Resort.
LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN USA / NBC / x60m-e / 1982-93 (2 February 82 - 10 September 93 / Weeknights 12.30am) The talk show that turned the talk show format on its head with Letterman setting out to enjoy himself as much as the audience, the show had traditional guests but Letterman had more fun with elements with items like The Top Ten list, small town news and Stupid Pet Tricks. Letterman left NBC after strangely being passed over for the Tonight Show in favour of Jay Leno. Letterman then switched over to CBS and carried on in more or less the same vein, see below for details of that show. Letterman also had regular assistance from Larry 'Bud' Melman as played by Calvert DeForest, the shows bandleader was Paul Shaffer.
LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN USA / CBS / x60m-e / 1993-continuing weeknights 11.35pm Basically a continuation of the above but with a change of channel after Letterman didn't get the Tonight seat. Letterman was not allowed to use any of the items from the NBC show (top ten etc) but soon came up with more, these CBS shows came from the Ed Sullivan Theater and Paul Shaffer again led the band (now called the CBS orchestra), Calvert DeForest was also still around and this time under his own name. Letterman has recently undergone major heart surgery but is getting the show back to something like their best.
LIGHT LUNCH UK / Channel Four / x50m-e / 1998-99 Weekday cookery-chat show hosted by comedians Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins combining comedy, cookery and interviewing various celebrities. Originally shown lunchtimes it then went to a teatime slot under the tile Late Lunch, this went out once a week as opposed to five times a week.

LOOK WHO'S HERE Canada / CBC / x30m-e / 1975-76 (3 June 75 - 14 September 76) Producer: Don Brown Talk show that concentrated on Canadian talent, each show had a different presenter, these included Lorraine Thomson (who spoke to Dame Margot Fonteyn), Gordon Sinclair and Howard Cable.
LOWRI UK / BBC2 / x30m-e / 1998 Talk and debate show with the same format as Esther and Kaye. The show sprang out of host Lowri Turner covering for Esther Rantzen on her show when Esther fell ill.
MANHATTAN SPOTLIGHT USA / Dumont / x15m-e / 1949-51 black and white Nightly talk show hosted by Dumont station announcer Chuck Tranum, his guests were generally of the people off the street kind. Shown in Daytime initially then at various times on the evening schedule.
McCOIST AND MacAULEY UK / BBC1(Scotland) / x30m-e / 1998-99 Producer: Esme Frain Comedy chat show hosted by footballer Ali McCoist and comic Fred MacAuley. Each edition came from a different venue somewhere in Scotland.
THE MAG UK / Channel Five / x40m-e / 1998- Teen discussion show in the style of Kilroy etc, originally hosted by Josie D'Arby then Sallyann Keizer.
MAKING FACES UK / Channel Four / 1x30m-e / 2000 14 May - Sunday 7.00pm Producer: Bruno Wolheim / Director: Andrew Palmer Artist Paul Benney paints the portrait of Jerry Hall whilst Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall watches the proceedings. A curious attempt to try and find a new chat show format.
MATCH OF THEIR DAY UK / BBC2 / 10x25m-e / 1998 Garth Crooks talks to some of Britains greatest footballers including Sir Stanley Matthews, Tommy Docherty and Rodney Marsh.
MELINDA'S BIG NIGHT IN UK / Channel Five / x40m-e / 1998-99 Producer: Sam Pinell Twice weekly chat show hosted by the ex page three 'glamour model' Melinda Messenger.
THE MRS MERTON SHOW UK / BBC-Granada / x30m-e / 1995-99 Writers: Caroline Aherne, Craig Cash, Henry Normal, David Gormon Comedy chat show with real guests but a fake host. Caroline Aherne appeared as elderly Mrs Merton putting often amazing questions to her celebrity guests (such as asking Debbie McGee what first attracted her to millionaire Paul Daniels). Mrs Merton's audience was made up of actual pensioners and the show first appeared on BBC2 with as it grew in popularity making the switch to BBC1.
MY SECRET UK / Channel Five / x30m-e / 1999 Producer: Adrian Podmore Discussion type show presented by Lauren Booth (half sister of Cherie) with each of the guests revealing an amazing secret.
NICK ROSS UK / BBC2 / 15x40m-e / 1999 29 November - 17 December Weekdays 5.20pm Producer: Siobhan Mulholland / Theme Music: Peter Oldroyd, Gary Scargill Discussion based show ala Esther, Kilroy etc etc, this one hosted by Crimewatch presenter Nick Ross.
