Children’s entertainment Animal Kwackers featured a pop quartet, Rory (a lion), Bongo (a dog), Twang (a monkey) and Boots (a Tiger) who just happened to be animals (or actors in animal costume at any rate). There was something decidely off kilter and other worldness about the animals themselves, aimed at a generally pre school audience but the gang were quite scary with their over sized heads.
In 1979 the gang appeared on the Christmas Day morning ITV show A Merry Morning (also made by Yorkshire and broadcast from the National Children’s Home in Harrogate, fellow appearees included Mike Harding and Jimmy Tarbuck).
The group released a tie-in LP called 20 TV favourites.
