Bergerac: The Moonlight Girls (BBC-1 6 Mar 1983, with Jeremy Child)

In season two finale The Moonlight Girls, Simone a stable girl from Belgium, working for one of the island’s stables, is found dead on the beach having taken an horse out for a middle of the night ride. However Simone seems to have been leading a double life. Marianne saw Simone on the night of her death at a party for a group of investment bankers.

Jim’s investigations lead him to the uncovering of a high class call girl racket which involves several prominent island businesses caught up in the fallout. Wealthy businessman Clive was bringing in the girl to the island and persuading local businesses such as stable owner Bryony to save they worked for them as some kind of tax dodge.

Clive accidentally killed Simone during some “rough play” and then tried to make it look like a riding accident.

Not the strongest of episodes to end what has generally been a season of very high quality, although there are some good moments.
