Big Bang Theory, The (CBS 2007- with Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons)

USA / CBS – Warner Bros Television / Broadcast 27 September 2007 – continuing

Creators: Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady / Theme Music: The History of Everything by The Barenaked Ladies / Executive Producers: Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, Lee Aronsohn

Hugely popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory follows a quartet of ultra bright but definitely geeky young men who study at Caltech in Pasadena, California, share an apartment and lust after the girl across the hallway.

Nominal leader of the group is Leonard Hofstadter an experimental physicist whilst Sheldon Cooper is a theoretical physicist; Howard Wolowitz is an aerospace engineer and Rajesh Koothrappali is a particle astrophysicist. Penny is the sexy wannabe actress across the hall who is initially highly disdainful of the boys and their antics but by the third season has begun a relationship with Leonard.

The series has a fab theme tune from the Barenaked Ladies. There was an initial unaired pilot made in 2006 which was significantly different to the current show with just Leonard and Sheldon from the current cast and the addition of a much tougher female character called Katie (played by Amanda Walsh), from there CBS funded a second bash at the format which was a success when it aired and led to a full series commission.
