Breeze Block (BBC Choice 2002, Tim Healy, Su Elliott)

Breeze Block BBC Choice Tim Healy and Denise Welch

Not one to avoid negative stereotypes, Ian Pattison, award-winning writer of Rab C. Nesbitt, set his sights on Newcastle for the razor-sharp comedy drama Breeze Block.

Tim Healy (Auf Wiedersehen, Pet) stars as downtrodden patriarch Ralph Breeze, an unemployed ex-factory worker who can barely face leaving the house and spends most of his days questioning his own sanity.

His wife Iris (Su Elliott) would like a job in the local supermarket but can’t get the hang of the till. So it’s a good job their three kids are working – Carol (Alison Mac) at the local fishmongers; Eric (David Nellist) as a window cleaner and Billy (Craig Heaney) as a gigolo because it beats signing on.

Other famous Geordie appearances come from Donna Air (Big Breakfast) and Ross Noble, as the Breeze’s nutty neighbours Kiki and Trevor, and Jayne Middlemiss.
