Glencannon (ITV 1960-1961, Thomas Mitchell, Patrick Allen)
Comedy series Glencannon detailed the exploits of a chief engineer working on a tramp steamer.
An English-American co-production the series was mostly studio bound (filmed at Elstree) with just a few location shots to spice up the action.
Arthur Lowe, Jack Train, Jon Pertwee, Sydney Tafler, Irene Handl, Victor Maddern and Alfie Bass all made guest appearances.
There had been a 1953 pilot for ABC with Robert Newton as Glencannon, it didn’t progress to series.
As was usual at the time with ITV, the series was not fully networked and the dates below refer to ATV who screened the whole series.
