Homecoming (MGM 1948, Clark Gable, Lana Turner)
Told in flashback, wartime romantic melodrama Homecoming depicts the repercussions of an extramarital affair on the front lines. Clark Gable enlists as an army surgeon, leaving behind a wife (Anne Baxter) and home. He finds comfort in the arms of Lana Turner, a battlefield nurse. They survive and love as the bombs fly. A postwar potboiler with a better-than-average cast.
Anne Baxter worked at 20th Century Fox, but the studio lent her to MGM to work with husband John Hodiak on this.
Based on Sidney Kingsley’s story “The Homecoming of Ulysses.”
