Homefront (ABC 1991-1993, Wendy Phillips, Kyle Chandler)

homefront-cast-abc

Period drama series Homefront followed life for a group of GI’s and their families as they adjust to civilian life after the end of world war II. Focusing initially in season one on Lt Hank Metcalf who came home to the small town of River Run in Ohio with plans to marry his sweetheart Sarah only to find her in love with someone else (his brother Jeff), Hank’s friend Charlie had returned home with a British bride (Caroline), as the series progressed Hank and Sarah ended up getting married but she later died and he left town, also heavily involved were The Sloan family who ran Sloan Industries.

Homefront was full of period charm and detail (notching up a few Emmys for costume and set design in the process), similar in content to the classic 1940’s movie The Best Years of our Lives. More than anything it probably appeared ten years too earlier, period dramas were not big ratings winners on prime time tv in the early 1990’s. Look out for a young Kyle Chandler and English actress Sammi Davis-Voss.
