With everything we now know about Jimmy Savile and the revelations about him being a massive sexual predator Louis Theroux’s 2001 intimate and personal documentary When Louis Met Jimmy can be seen very much in a new light. Theroux himself thinks so which brings us to this new companion documentary Savile.
At the time Louis had major concerns about not confronting Savile head on about the rumours that had long surrounded him. He did manage to ask some searching questions about his sexual proclivities but Savile brushed them off and Louis didn’t seem to pursue them. He did report his concerns to the BBC at the time but that was as far as it went.
Louis now re-examines the original documentary as well as featuring a lot of previously unseen footage and also speaks to some of Savile’s victims as well as people who knew him at the time. Some of whom are still unable to come to terms with the facts and the Jimmy they knew.
